치아교정 AI 분석 및 치료계획 자동화 기술과 의료분야 멀티모달 AI 기술을 보유한 라온메디(대표 이석중)가 정부가 추진하는 25억원 규모의 디지털 교정 AI 기술 고도화 사업에 선정됐다. 중소벤처기업부가 추진하는 이번 사업은 ‘2026년 중소기업유망기술개발사업’ 가운데 국가전략기술 분야 도메인특화 AI 개발 과제로 라온메디가 주관하며, 공동 연구개발 기관들과 AI 기반 교정계획 자동화 기술을 한단계 발전시키고 의료진과 AI가 상호작용하며 진단과 교정계획을 수행할 수 있는 ‘AI 에이전트’ 개발을 진행하게 된다. 이를 통해 멀티모달 구강 데이터 및 치의학 지식그래프 기반의 ‘지능형 디지털 치아교정 계획 AI 에이전트 개발’에 주력하고, 개발되는 시스템은 다양한 구강 데이터를 통합 분석 및 치의학 지식에 기반해 진단과 교정계획 수립을 지원하는 AI 에이전트를 중심으로 구현될 계획이다. 여러 AI 에이전트를 동시에 활용할 수 있는 환경을 구축해 고도의 의료지식과 복잡한 3D 작업이 필요한 교정계획 업무를 효율화하고, 개별 작업시간을 기존의 30% 이하로 단축한다는 목표다. 라온메디 관계자는 “도메인특화 AI 개발 프로젝트는 라온메디가 그동안 추진해온 치아교정 AI와 자동화 기술의 방향성을 인정받은 결과의 연장선”이라며 “AI 에이전트 기술을 본격적으로 발전시켜 의료진과 AI가 협업하는 새로운 교정계획 환경을 구현하고, 글로벌 시장에서 경쟁력 있는 치아교정 AI 기술을 확보해 나가겠다”고 밝혔다. 한편, 중소기업기술정보진흥원이 지원하고 2년간 25억원의 예산이 투입되는 이번 프로젝트는 라온메디가 주관기업으로 가장 많은 17억원 규모의 연구개발비를 지원받게 되며 시스루테크, 바이오세텍, 리얼라이너 등 치과전문 제조기업들이 공동 개발하고, 연세대학교치과병원과 전북대학교치과병원 등이 위탁 연구기관으로 참여하게 된다. 이들 기관들은 치과 제조기업과 개발 기술을 실제 제조 과정까지 연계해 현장 적용성과 실용성을 검증하고, 연구 결과를 지속적으로 고도화해 사업화로 연계하는 한편, 글로벌 시장에서 국내 치과 제조기업의 경쟁력을 높일 수 있는 AI 기반 교정 솔루션을 확보한다는 방침이다.

Laon Medi, a dental AI company with expertise in AI-powered orthodontic analysis, treatment planning automation, and multimodal AI technologies for healthcare, has been selected to lead a KRW 2.5 billion government-funded project aimed at advancing digital orthodontic AI technology. The project, supported by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups of Korea (MSS) under the 2026 Promising Technology Development Program, is a domain-specific AI development project designated as a national strategic technology initiative. Laon Medi will serve as the lead R\&D organization, working with its research and industry partners to advance AI-based orthodontic treatment planning and develop an AI Agent that can interact and collaborate with clinicians in diagnosis and orthodontic treatment planning. At the core of the project is the development of an Intelligent Digital Orthodontic Planning AI Agent based on multimodal oral data and a dental knowledge graph. The system is designed to integrate and analyze various types of oral data and provide diagnosis and treatment planning support based on accumulated dental knowledge. The project will also establish an environment in which multiple AI agents can work together, helping streamline orthodontic planning tasks that require advanced clinical knowledge and complex 3D operations. Laon Medi aims to reduce the time required for individual orthodontic planning tasks to less than 30% of current working time, significantly improving efficiency and productivity. A Laon Medi representative said: “The domain-specific AI development project is an extension of Laon Medi’s ongoing efforts in orthodontic AI and automation, and reflects the recognition of the technological direction we have pursued. We will further advance AI Agent technology to create a new orthodontic planning environment in which clinicians and AI can work together, while strengthening our competitiveness in the global orthodontic AI market.” The two-year project is supported by the Korea Technology and Information Promotion Agency for SMEs and Startups (TIPA) with a total budget of KRW 2.5 billion. As the lead organization, Laon Medi will receive approximately KRW 1.7 billion in R\&D funding, the largest share of the project budget. Dental manufacturing companies including Sisrootech, BioSetec, and Realigner will participate as R\&D partners, while Yonsei University Dental Hospital and Jeonbuk National University Dental Hospital will participate as commissioned research institutions. Through collaboration among AI technology developers, dental manufacturers, and university hospitals, the project aims to validate the technology in real-world clinical and manufacturing environments and connect the research outcomes directly to commercialization. The participating organizations will also work to establish AI-powered orthodontic solutions that can enhance the global competitiveness of Korean dental manufacturers.

AI-powered digital orthodontics company Laon Medi has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Geno, a specialist in medical device manufacturing automation, to jointly develop an automated production system for clear aligners. Through this partnership, Laon Medi aims to combine its AI-based digital orthodontic software with Geno's manufacturing automation technology to establish an integrated workflow that connects patient diagnosis, treatment planning, and appliance production. Conventional clear aligner workflows often require multiple manual steps between treatment planning and manufacturing. The new platform is designed to streamline this process by seamlessly connecting digital treatment planning with automated production, supporting a more efficient in-house manufacturing environment for dental clinics. Laon Medi will provide its AI-powered digital orthodontic platform, Laon Ortho, for diagnosis, treatment planning, and appliance design, while Geno will contribute its expertise in manufacturing automation and production processes. Together, the two companies plan to build a digital production environment that enables clinicians to produce clear aligners more efficiently within their own practices.
